Rooted in the best tradition of jazz vocal greats-Joe Williams, Arthur Prysock, and yes, even Dinah Washington Ð Lee has the contemporary flavor to do justice to War's "The World is a Ghetto" and Lalo Schifrin's "Down Here On The Ground", Lee's rich flowing style is equally at home with a straight ahead ballad like "My Funny Valentine", or a sensitive interpretation of "Naima" by John Coltrane, on of his major influence. Harold Mabern accompanied Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughn, Arthur Prysock, and Dakota Station as well as playing with the likes of Lionel Hampton, Lee Morgan, Wes Montgomery and with the Art Farmer/Benny Golson Jazzet. George Coleman was part of the great Miles Davis organization on 1963-64 as well as working with Max Roach, Horace Silver, and Jimmy Smith. Jamil Nasser's experience includes playing with BB King, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt and Gene Ammons and for almost 10 years he was 1/3 of that great trio. In addition, he worked with J.J. Johnson and Red Garland, and did backing for Billie Holiday, Gloria Lynne, and Joe Williams. There you have it. Pour yourself a drink, turn the lights, kick off your shoes and listen. You're gonna like it. Marty Wilson rt |
