Don't look now but there's a fresh new jazz vocalist who's bound to make his mark on the music world. His name is Lee Willhite. If you haven't heard of him yet, keep listening. And Lee's "First Venture" is a perfect place to start. Lee is a West Tennessean. He grew up in the small rural city of Dyersburg. His early exposure musically was primarily Blues and Spirituals. Later, while serving in the Armed Forces, geo gravitated to the music of Errol Garner, Ahmad Jamal, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, Wynton Kelly, etc. Thus he stepped into the world of jazz. And that step was jazz's gain. Lee honed his skills in the Armed Forces Special Services traveling through Europe. He returned to Nashville, Tennessee and appeared in Nightclubs and on television while working his way through Tennessee State University. Lee entered Graduate school at Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY) and studied the business of music. Later, he performed with music greats Clark Terry, Charles McPherson, and Jimmy McGriff. |
